TIME MARCHES ON – But it needs to stay off your face!
We age. This is a fact and we haven’t figured out a way to make the process stop. What we have discovered is practices that can help slow it down a bit. First, start now. As soon as possible. There are 5 major factors that contribute to our aging. Time, Genetics, Gravity, Sun exposure, Smoking. As you can imagine we are only in control of two of these five.
Protect yourself from the sun by using a sunscreen. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the leading cause of skin cancer.
Do not smoke. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outer layer of your skin. As blood flow decreases, your skin becomes starved of oxygen and nutrients. Smoking damages collagen and elastin needed to keep your skin from wrinkling. The repetitive motion of pursing your lips and squinting your eyes also contribute to more wrinkles.
Gently does it. Avoid strong soaps, pat dry and use moisturizer. Liquid cleansers are better than solids.
Eat healthy. A well-balanced diet prevents nutrient deficiencies that affect your skin.
Other steps you might consider include using professional skin care products as opposed to over the counter or department store lines. Professional products have more active ingredients and at more potent concentrations than those sold in stores. As an example, Skin Medica® TNS Essential Serum® is an all-in-one skin rejuvenating treatment. Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (TNS®) is a physiologically balanced, naturally secreted and stabilized growth factor blend that helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone and texture. TNS® is mixed with APS Corrective Complex™ that are peptides that help support your skin and antioxidants that help prevent free radical damage. TNS Essential Serum® also contains specialty ingredients: Alpha-Arbutin to brighten the skin and Hyaluronic Filling Spheres that contain hyaluronic acid that helps trap water on the surface of the skin much like a sponge. You would have to combine numerous products from other lines in hopes of achieving the same results.
My advice to anyone who not only wants to take better care of their skin but to enhance their appearance is to choose a skin care product that has invested in research and uses scientifically formulated and clinically tested, proven ingredients. For optimal results, consult your physician to help you determine which treatment regimen is best for you based on your skin condition, previous procedures and lifestyle.
